French President Emmanuel Macron asked Chinese President Xi Jinping to urge dictator Vladimir Putin to "return to the negotiating table " regarding Russia's war against Ukraine.
This is reported by the French channel BFM TV.
It is noted that Macron addressed Xi Jinping during a meeting on November 15 on the sidelines of the G20 summit in Bali.
As the publication writes, the head of the People's Republic of China "resolutely opposed the use of nuclear weapons and supported de-escalation and a ceasefire."
Negotiations between the Russian Federation and Ukraine
Russia began to announce negotiations with Ukraine more and more often, however, as always, putting forward its own demands. At the beginning of the full-scale invasion, Russian and Ukrainian delegations held several rounds of negotiations on a ceasefire, but such meetings did not bring results.
Thus, the representative of the Russian Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Maria Zakharova, stated that the Russian Federation is ready for negotiations with Ukraine "taking into account the realities that are emerging now."
In November, the President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelenskyi said that he is ready for negotiations with the Russian Federation on the condition that its rhetoric changes and when the aggressor country recognizes itself as an occupier .
Leaders of foreign countries also emphasize that negotiations between Ukraine and the Russian Federation cannot be on the Kremlin's terms. Thus, German Chancellor Olaf Scholz emphasized that it was Vladimir Putin who did everything to make negotiations impossible.
United Nations Secretary General Antonio Guterres believes that dialogue between Ukraine and Russia is necessary. But any peace is not suitable - it is possible only under the condition of full restoration of the integrity of the territory of Ukraine within the internationally recognized borders.
